Dr. Satya Kiran Avvaru serves as a Senior ENT Consultant and Cochlear Implant Surgeon at Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Hyderabad.
He completed his undergraduate medical education at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal and obtained his postgraduate degree in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad.
He further achieved a DNB (Diplomate in National Board, National Board of Examinations, New Delhi) in Otorhinolaryngology at Vasavi ENT Institute, Hyderabad. Notably, he was the first in India to receive a certified two-year Fellowship in Implant Otology from the esteemed Christian Medical College in Vellore.
Subsequently, he underwent Advanced Cochlear Implant Surgeon Training at the Institute for Cochlear Implant Training (ICIT) in the United States, under the mentorship of Prof. Thomas J Balkany, a leading figure in Cochlear Implantation.
Additionally, he participated in a short-term clinical observership and training in the Otology, Neurotology & Cochlear Implants department at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA. Dr. Avvaru has been honored with the Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI) Fellowship for the 2016-17 academic year and the Indian Society of Otology (ISO) Fellowship for 2015-16.
Throughout his career, he has received 14 prestigious awards, including six gold medals in Otorhinolaryngology, and has contributed to numerous presentations and publications at regional, national, and international levels. He has also played a significant role as an organizer and surgical faculty member in various Regional and National Live Surgical Workshops.
Furthermore, he authored the “Handbook on Dissection Manual for Basic & Advanced Cochlear Implantation.” Dr. Avvaru holds professional memberships as a life member and/or governing body member of several organizations, including the Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI), the Indian Society of Otology (ISO), the Indian Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (IAOHNS), and the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI).
His areas of interest include advanced Pediatric Cochlear Implantation, Auditory Brainstem Implantation (ABI), and Bone conduction hearing devices.
