Dr. Deepak Natarajan is a distinguished interventional cardiologist celebrated for his pioneering contributions to percutaneous mitral balloon valvotomy using the Inoue Balloon catheter. He was the first in the nation to utilize intracoronary and intravenous streptokinase for treating acute myocardial infarction. He earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College and completed his DM in cardiology at GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi. Following his training, he served as a senior consultant in cardiology at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he held the position of chief of cardiology for over ten years and also took on the role of medical superintendent. He dedicated himself to creating a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory and a comprehensive cardiac surgery department at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Throughout his career there, he received several international fellowships, collaborating with prominent interventional cardiologists such as Prof. Masakiyo Nobuyoshi from Japan, Prof. Gary Rubin from the USA, and Prof. Robert Greenbaum from the UK, who has a special interest in electrophysiology. He also established a cardiology department with a catheterization laboratory at Saroj Hospital in Rohini, Delhi, and was affiliated with Moolchand Hospital and MAX Hospital in Delhi. Notably, he has provided cardiology services to three Prime Ministers and one President of India, as well as numerous cabinet ministers and chief ministers. Additionally, he was appointed as the cardiologist to H.E. Mr. Nelson Mandela by the Government of India. In 2015, he published three articles in peer-reviewed journals and regularly contributes as a columnist for ‘The Wire.’ He has also launched his own advanced catheterization laboratory, ‘Nataraj Cardiac Care,’ located in Noida, Delhi NCR.
