Dr. Sridhar Baratan has served as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya for a decade, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and managing a tertiary-level Center of Excellence in Cataract Surgery and Community Ophthalmology in a suburb of South Chennai, now known as C U Shah Sankara Nethralaya. In collaboration with a colleague, he initiated the surgical facility in 2006, growing from an initial volume of 30-40 surgeries per month to over 180 cases monthly.
After departing from Nethralaya in 2013, Dr. Sridhar Baratan joined Beyond Eye Care, where he significantly contributed to the establishment and operation of a state-of-the-art eye hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the mentorship of Dr. Rashmin Gandhi. The hospital currently serves more than 120 patients daily and is on track to meet its ambitious target of over 5,000 surgeries for the 2014-15 period.
Upon returning to India, he took on the role of Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, specializing in Refractive, LASIK, and Phaco surgery, and became the Head of Maxivision Eye Hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Sridhar Baratan is presently a Consultant at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, focusing on Phacoemulsification, Refractive Surgery, LASIK, and Glaucoma.
