Dr. Sharath Shetty earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2002 and completed his Master’s training in Periodontics and Implantology in 2005 at the Government Dental College & Hospital in Bangalore. He made history as the first Periodontist in India to successfully pass the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) examination, which is administered by the Ministry of Health, India, in 2005.
Currently, he is pursuing a PhD at DPU, Pune, in collaboration with the Rocky Mountain Tissue Bank in the USA. Additionally, he has been awarded a grant from the national body BIRAC during the 14th call of BIG 2019 for his proof of concept study focused on the application of stem cells in periodontal plastic surgery. Presently, he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital in Pimpri, Pune.
He also runs a specialized consulting practice in periodontics in Pune, with particular interests in regenerative periodontal therapy, stem cell applications in periodontics, periodontal plastic surgery, interdisciplinary case management, and implant dentistry, especially concerning bone augmentation procedures for managing implant sites.
