Dr. Shabeer Ahmed, a prominent surgeon in Bangalore, currently practices as a Minimal Access Surgeon at Fortis Hospital on Bannerghatta Road. He holds an MS, FRCS (UK), and MMAS (Masters in Minimal Access Surgery, Scotland). Dr. Ahmed earned his Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from Madras University in 1986, followed by an M.S degree from Mysore University in 1989. He underwent surgical training in the Republic of Ireland from 1989 to 1996, completing his FRCS in England in 1995. Dr. Ahmed’s passion for Minimal Access Surgery led him to study under Professor Alfred Cuscheri at Nine well Hospital in Scotland, where he obtained his Masters Degree in Minimal Access Surgery from Dundee University. He conducted research on laparoscopy topics and worked as a consultant colorectal surgeon in the Republic of Ireland from 1998 to 2001 before being appointed as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, Scotland. Dr. Ahmed established a Laparoscopic Center at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, performing approximately 240 laparoscopic colorectal cancer cases, which garnered recognition. He was appointed as a preceptor by the association of laparoscopic surgery (ALS) and trained surgeons across the UK. Dr. Ahmed’s interests include colon cancer screening and prevention, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), medical ethics, and teaching medicine. He supervised various research projects and clinical trials in Dundee and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, review articles, and medical literature abstracts.
