Dr. Muralidharan Venkatesan completed his medical degree at Chengalpattu Medical College in 2001 before relocating to the United Kingdom for advanced training in orthopedics. He underwent rigorous training in various facets of orthopedics through a structured program at several prestigious hospitals in the UK. Notably, he spent two years at the esteemed Wrightington Hospital in Manchester, the site where Sir John Charnley, the pioneer of modern hip replacement surgery, developed the procedure in the 1960s.
Dr. Muralidharan Venkatesan gained expertise in both non-surgical and surgical management of orthopedic conditions affecting the hip, knee, spine, shoulder, elbow, hand, foot, and ankle. He further enhanced his qualifications by obtaining MRCS(UK), MCh (Ortho), and FRCS Ortho (UK), and he is currently a Member/Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (UK). In 2012, Dr. Muralidharan Venkatesan became the first Indian recipient of the Arthritis Research UK Young Investigator Award at the British Orthopedic Association Annual Conference.
He has received numerous accolades for his innovative work in improving care for elderly patients with hip fractures. After completing his orthopedic training, he specialized in spine surgery, undertaking focused training in adult and pediatric spinal issues at the renowned Spine Institute at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, UK, for two years.
Dr. Muralidharan Venkatesan also completed three short-term fellowships in spine surgery at distinguished centers in Bordeaux (France), Ganga Hospital (India), and the Royal Orthopedic Hospital (UK), where he trained under leading spinal surgeons. As a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Muralidharan’s practice encompasses all aspects of bone, joint, and spine care, with specialized expertise in adult and pediatric spine surgery, advanced spinal reconstruction, complex spine surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery.
