Dr. (Lt Gen) CS Narayanan completed his DM (Neurology) at AIIMS in 1998. He has extensive experience in leading Clinical Services, Teaching, and Research in Neurology for two decades at the largest tertiary care centers of the Armed Forces. Rising to the rank of Lt Gen, the highest position for a medical professional in the Armed Forces, he held the appointment of Dy Chief Integrated Defence Staff. As Maj Gen, he served in two crucial roles – Dy Commandant and Dean (Academics) at Army Hospital (Research and Referral), the apex super-specialty hospital of the Armed Forces, and as Senior Consultant (Medicine), overseeing the professional care of all specialists and super-specialists in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). During his tenure at Army Hospital (R&R), he was involved in establishing various neurology sub-specialty programs, such as acute stroke care services, epilepsy surgery, and advanced immuno-modulatory therapies for multiple sclerosis. He also has significant experience in administering botulinum toxin for Movement Disorders and was part of the team that conducted the first deep brain stimulation procedure in the Armed Forces in 2000. As a Professor of Neurology in the largest tertiary care centers of the Armed Forces, he has been a teacher, research guide, and examiner for MD (Medicine) and DNB (Neurology) students for over 15 years across various universities. Dr. (Lt Gen) CS Narayanan has received the Vishisht Sewa Medal for distinguished service from the Honorable President of India three times (2009, 2014, and 2015). He was appointed as Honorary Surgeon to the President of India on 25th July 2017 and presented a report on the implementation of Telemedicine to soldiers in remote combat posts of the Armed Forces to Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherji, the Honorable President of India on 7th April 2017. Additionally, he has collaborated with industry leaders in deploying eHealth and Artificial Intelligence in the AFMS.
