Dr. S. M. Rajendran is a distinguished Senior Diabetologist with over 40 years of experience in clinical medicine and more than 30 years in academia and research. He advocates for the management of diabetes through lifestyle modifications, demonstrating in numerous cases that such changes can lead to significant reversal of the condition. Dr. S. M. Rajendran specific interests include tackling obesity and providing care for adolescents. Dr. Rajendran earned his MBBS in 1970 and MD in 1978 from the University of Madras, India, and later received his Doctor of Science (DSc.) from Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, in 2012.
In 2008, he was honored with the FRCP designation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow. Dr. S. M. Rajendran has held teaching positions in Internal Medicine and Diabetology at Stanley Medical College and has served as the Director and Professor of Diabetology at the Sree Balaji Diabetology Research Center in Chennai. His teaching experience spans both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and he also mentors doctoral candidates.
